Home again
and loving it. Was great to go to sunny Canadia, it's a nice place full of great people, but it's also good to be home. There's nowhere quite like home. It's so nice to be able to sit around and do nothing. Except drink beer, but that counts as not doing anything, as it removes all motivation to do anything productive.
Back to talking about Canada, it was weird to be back in an English speaking country. Weird to understand all the conversations going on around me. Not that I was trying to eavesdrop, but I couldn't help understanding. I have come to realise that one of the reasons I like living in Japan is that I can tune out whenever I feel like it. I have to concentrate so hard to understand what is said around me that if I stop listening the conversations around me just become a background buzz, it's kinda like having a switch for my ears. And that's generally a good thing.
Canada is pretty much like Australia, except that over there they talk funny. Kidding. I met lots of great people, especially in the backpackers we stayed at. They were a great bunch of people, treated us really well and showed more patience than about six saints. So thankyou Sandra, Leslie, Kyle, Michel and Bill! You can see more about it here:

We also went to A LOT of great restaurants, for which I have to thank my boss, Mr Kaneko. I also have to thank the multiculturalism of the T-dot - there are so many great restaurants run by people from all corners of the globe, and those folks know how to cook! I think my favourite was Portuguese, with Italian at Terroni a close second, but for value for money it was hard to beat Gold Stone Chinese - and the surliness of the waitresses there made it so much fun. I have never before eaten at a place where I thought the staff might actually be angry that we patronised their restaurant...oh yeah, I think we stuffed ourselves silly there for about $6 each.
Was also fun to freak out the waitresses in the sushi restaurant arount the corner by ordering in Japanese...cheap thrills(As Henry David Thoreaux said "Man is richest whose pleasures in life are cheapest").
